What PubIQ Does

PubIQ is a Chrome extension that adds research intelligence to PubMed search results, including journal metrics, NIH funding data, citation counts, and institution rankings.

Data We Collect

PubIQ does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data.

Specifically:

• We do not collect your name, email, or any identifying information
• We do not track your browsing history
• We do not track which PubMed searches you perform
• We do not use cookies or analytics
• We do not sell any data to third parties
• We do not display advertisements

Data That Stays on Your Device

PubIQ stores the following data locally in your browser only:

• Cached API responses (journal metrics, funding data) to reduce network requests
• Your extension preferences/settings

This data never leaves your browser and is automatically cleared when you uninstall the extension.

External API Calls

To provide research intelligence, PubIQ makes requests to the following public APIs:

• NCBI E-utilities (eutils.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov) — to fetch paper metadata and grant information
• NIH RePORTER (api.reporter.nih.gov) — to fetch PI funding profiles
• Europe PMC (www.ebi.ac.uk) — to fetch citation counts

These are public government and academic APIs. PubIQ sends only PubMed IDs and author names to these services — no personal information about you.

Permissions

PubIQ requests the following Chrome permissions:

• activeTab — to read PubMed page content and inject research intelligence
• storage — to cache API responses locally for performance
